Nationalism.

The Guardian has a scary-fascinating piece on the English Defense League.

The recurrence of a zealot-like nationalism as a response to cultural invasion reminds me of an immune system response to foreign matter invading a human body. Most importantly, it is KEY to remember that hay-fever, eczema, allergies to dust and plants, and food allergies are the human immune system overreacting to a circumstance. The immune system can even attack its host.

So don’t take feeble simile as moral or biological turpitude.

I think this is a scary view and reminds me of this.

But I don’t think these reactions are moral decisions for any of these folks. They feel threatened. We have it here in the US, as well, and of course we didn’t invent it. But oddly, we do it in “one of the safest places to live in all of America.”

So much for the moral high ground.
