I have been working my way through SB 1070 slowly. The copy I have been reading is only fifteen or sixteen pages long. But this influenced my morning of listening to music
and link surfing:
I was looking at one of Lincoln’s speeches:
Under the operation of that policy, that agitation has, not only not ceased, but has constantly augmented. In my opinion, it will not cease until a crisis shall have been reached and passed. “A house divided against itself cannot stand.”
He prognosticates the engagement of the Civil War, but hedges agaist the collapse of the grand experiment completely:
I do not expect the Union to be dissolved — I do not expect the house to fall — but I do expect it will cease to be divided.
This is a forceful moment of this speech. I tried to remember where in the Christian Bible Lincoln sampled the “a house divided”, but I had to resort to google. It turns out to be in Matthew 12:25, Mark 3:25 some where in Luke 11.
Here is Matthew’s quote:
And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand
Here J-man is basically arguing with some Pharisees about a miracle he just preformed. Which reminded me that I had no idea what Pharisees meant which of course led me to learn that google thinks that it can be spelled Nebakanezer (I learned Nebuchadnezzar) II, too.
