  • If in the sun, cheat a bit by turning the subject’s face so it’s in complete shadow.
  • Think north-facing in the northern hemisphere..
  • A gold reflector can also bounce more flattering, warmer light into your subject’s face.
  • In direct overhead light, use flash+4 to 6 feet away to get rid of raccoon eye.
  • Try a 58mm Glimmer glass diffusion filter #5.
  • Use the 105mm f/2.8 or the 50mm F/1.4.

All of this is well and fine. Of course, who needs a flash when one has Hyper POWER. Causing a blast of silken light synchronized with the shutter is as good of a super power as any other. Or so I thought as I accidentally blinded myself with the SB-800, again. Relays are cool and all, but they are at times unexpected as well.

She sat patiently. She was sipping on some long cool fruity beverage. I could smell the sweetness of her drink from behind the lens. It was as if I was trying to focus through the fragrance. But she still sat stationary. Not moving, that is, or hardly noticeable by me.

Her drink was finished. She pulled up one foot. Her eyes glimmered back through the lens.

She stretched and the shutter started clicking.

“There we go,” I said. Cajoling gently, but in reality I had nil effect. It was just the repetitive verbal memory of shooting countless shots of faceless corporate monsters. Her pose stood, and I obliged.

“Are you ok?” I said. She startled and shuddered. And just that quickly she was gone. I think the urban experience is getting to me. I have travel coming in the future.
